This calculator is built on published industry data, not vendor claims.

Every default in this tool (outage frequency, cost per incident, preventable percentage) is drawn from published telecommunications reliability research and federal reporting data. These are the same benchmarks used by Tier-1 carriers, federal regulators, and infrastructure auditors when modeling network reliability investments.

The 40–60% preventable outage rate reflects findings across ITU-T L.1310, the FCC's NORS reporting, ATIS Network Reliability Steering Committee best practices, and the Uptime Institute's 2024 annual outage analysis. Cost-per-outage ranges are drawn from FCC outage data, Ericsson's 2022 Network Availability white paper, and Omdia's carrier reliability research.
